CHANGE MANAGEMENT CONTROL
Projects are dynamic activities that do not ever cease in an organization. This asks for
much attention to be given to the processes involved in projects. All the projects on the run will
at some point demand for a change and this mostly occurs in information technology projects.
This is because most of the information technology projects usually use hardware components
and software that is frequently updated. A change control system is usually a formally
documented method showing how change can occur in a project (Schwalbe, 2000). This
document also describes the official people that are authorized to make a change to the project
document.
Websites are information systems projects which are dynamic in nature. For the case of a
corporate website a well-planned change management plan should be established to ensure a
smooth flow of operations.
The below processes show how change can be done in such kind of a project.
Identifying the need to carry out the anticipated change – This involves identifying the
project segment that requires change. If it is identified the change request is usually submitted to
the project manager by the change requester.
Change log – this process is usually done by the project manager where he logs the information
on the request made to him by the change requesters.
Change Evaluation – the project manager is usually tasked with the analysis of the requested
change. If the change is affecting the project cost, schedule risk or scope, the project manager
has to consult the other project members for a clear direction for the change (Kelkar, 2007).
3
CHANGE MANAGEMENT CONTROL
Submission of the change request to the change control board (CCB) – the project manager
usually submits the change request to the change control board for review.
Obtaining the decision – the change control board usually evaluates the submitted proposal to get
the decide whether to approve or decline the requested change depending on its impact.
Change implementation – if the requested change has been approved by the change control
board, the project manager usually gives a go on for the requester to implement the change.
