NEXT week you will be creating a formal thesis/outline for
the upcoming essay. You are welcome to use your journals as a basis for the
essay! For
example, maybe you plan to expand journal 1 into a complete essay; or perhaps
you are going to use journal 2 to expand into a complete essay. Or…perhaps you
plan to take elements of both journals to create your essay. The choice is
yours! Whichever
direction you plan to take though…you MUST have a clear and detailed formal
thesis and outline:) Below you will find the instructions on how to
create this document. Before
you do so, please take a few moments to also review all information on thesis statements
(see other items in HL). Your thesis statement should be at least 3-4 sentences
in length.
Thesis and OutlineDirectionsThe
thesis should be two-three sentences at the top of your page that states the
main point of your essay. Try
not to announce your topic (In this essay I will …). Instead, just state the
overall main idea of your essay.
I
cannot emphasize enough the use of our textbook regarding
thesis/outlines. Be sure to review the information contained there (however,
you will be creating a 3-4 sentence thesis, not a one sentence thesis). Look
in the index under each of these words. They
are discussed in numerous ways in numerous chapters. The
outline MUST use complete sentences to map out the body paragraphs. Each
main point that you plan to cover in the essay needs its own single point that
works to support the thesis. The
outline should also map out the examples you’ll use inside the body paragraphs
to support your ideas. (Each
body paragraph should be a Roman numeral, and the details in that paragraph
will be capital letters.) Get as specific as you can at this point to make the
first draft easier to write.
**Remember, the thesis and outline are the road map to
the essay. Be sure to offer as much detail as possible. **Do
not approach this as a 5 paragraph essay!!! You will probably need
6, 7. 8, etc., paragraphs – depending on what you plan to cover. Dismiss any
prior information in your head that all essays follow a 5 paragraph model:)Here are Journal attachmentThesis Outline Directions 2.docx Thesis Outline and Direction Journal #2.docx

How important is a college education in 2015? What makes it so? What services are available to help students who might not
otherwise attend college? It will be really important to consider all comments from previous assignments and begin carrying
them forward
As mentioned before – all journals should be approached as mini- formal – essays. They should include an introduction,
thesis, body paragraphs and conclusion
College or higher education provides the graduating student with many different opportunities. Even though in the past it was not
absolutely necessary to have a college education to land a good job, this is rarely the case in the 21 st Century. Most employers
seek employees with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and for some a master’s degree is required. The most important reason a
college education is necessary in 2015 is because of opportunity. A college education offers graduating students and people in the
workforce with a chance to obtain high paying jobs which allows for a higher quality of life. Please consider all information on
both introductions and thesis statements in HL. You will find detailed tips there on items to consider including. Once you have
reviewed, please let me know if you have questions.
How so and in what way? The new American economy is no longer focused solely on manufacturing but now is more
focused on technological improvements and processes. Avoid summary and paraphrase – need to begin using direct quotes and
then offer analysis of them>College provides the student with the additional education they need to be successful in a new
technology driven market (Blake, 2015). Connection to college? Need to clarify High school does not provide sufficient training
on the technological aspects of society which is essential to being successful. College provides the student with the additional
knowledge and training they will need to be better equipped to enter the job market. There is a need for more detailed analysis –
consider the how so, why, in what way, etc.,
Need to offer more than examples – there is a need to shift focus from ‘showing’ to ‘telling’. What is the significance of the
examples? What do they demonstrate? What is the overall takeaway for readers?
Every year millions of student choose to college to improve their opportunities to get a good job or to pursue a specific career.
When these college student graduate, they are seeking the available jobs in the job market. Applications without a college
application will not be considered over the applicant that has successfully graduated from college and received a bachelor’s
degree (Blake, 2015). What does this really seem to suggest, and why? Be sure to also review the big 6 in HL. It is an excellent
revision technique to use – go back to each paragraph here and develop the how so, why, and in what way
The applicants with the college degree will be considered over the applicant that has not attended college. This will increase the
applicant with a college degree’s likelihood of obtaining the job positon.
Unemployment is still high in the United States. This includes people with college educations. In order to stand out from
other applicants, a college degree will be absolutely necessary. While the economy has improved, it is still essential for job
seekers to have the educational background required by the employer Most of the information here is summary and
paraphrased from sources. There will be a need to shift the focus from ‘showing’ to ‘telling’. Readers will be much more
interested in your analysis of the information, and not your reporting of it. Remember, they are looking to you as the ‘expert’
on the topic. As such, they will want your expertise in term of the how so, why, in what way, etc., for the ideas that are being
presented (Indiviglio, 2011). Because of the past economic hardships, employers are more hesitant to hire more employees than
necessary or even to hire a large number of full time employees. This limits the available jobs in the market. A college education
is required even to be considered for a job.
Skipping college used to be Plan B for many graduating high school students. Plan B is no longer viable. Students who do
not attend college will end up in dead end jobs and even some student who do attend college and get a degree will have difficulty
obtaining a job. Because it is difficult to find a good job in the job market, not having a college education could pose an
additional barrier to the job seeker. The current job market is difficult to navigate for even the college graduates. Not having a
college education would make it three times as hard to locate a good job.
A college graduate is an asset to a company. They have extensive knowledge about the field they are entering and have obtained
some of the skills necessary to be effective in their new role. While the college graduate does not have real life work experience,
they have proven their willingness to work hard and complete goals by graduating from college (Indiviglio, 2011). The college
graduate has extended a great deal of time and money on obtaining their college education. They have also received additional
advantages by being exposed to best practice approaches and the most, up to date technologies.
Students who do not attend college can find lower level jobs and work their way up through the ranks or they could obtain
training certificate for a specific job skills. Going to college is necessary in 2015 but not every person in the job market will go
this route. For people who do not go to college the road to success will be much harder but it is not impossible. It will be much
easier for the college student to obtain a good job in the market than the job seeker with no college experience but it is not
impossible.
College students can better adapt to the job market than the person entering the job market right out of high school. They will
have had more would experience by going to college and they will have made more connection which will be beneficial when
seeking a job. It is imperative to have a college education in 2015 to have the very best chance for career success. The college
graduate adds value to a workplace and has a competitive advantage over other applicants. College graduates are a valuable
source of potential applicants for employers in the job market. Without a college education finding a job and future career
success will be far more difficult

Journal # 1
Multit-ask
Multitasking is used to refer to the ability of people to partake more than one task, function, or ability at ago. Not clear why there
is a source reference here…An example of Multitasking is taking a phone call while driving (Wallis, 2006). Multitasking is also
called dual tasking. What is its purpose? What are the benefits? Need to introduce in more specific detail here. Multitasking
can be acquired through training where an individual takes their brain into a series of training; this makes their brains adapt.
Multitasking can be improved through the inscription of symbols more often so as to strengthen the memory.
Multitasking has This is vague – need to be more specific – avoid these types of terms>several advantages. The first
advantage is that performing tasks simultaneously allows us to finish more work within the stipulated time. It also promotes
creativity, make one busy and inspire him. Additionally, it helps one to finish his work in early enough to allow resting (Wallis,
2006). Multitasking also reduces the expenses that would have been incurred during the employment of human labor that would
have performed the task done by one person. Also, multitasking teaches us to handle our free time appropriately. For example,
one can send an email to his boss while waiting for his turn at the bank informing him that he might be caught up with time due
to long queue or failure of banking machines. Please avoid using summary and paraphrase of source material. Begin using
direct quotes. Doing so will allow you to offer analysis of the information. Be sure to review tips on audience in course
announcements. Remember your audience will be looking for your analysis of information, not your reporting of it. This is a
really important part of the course.
Contrary, multitasking has got its setbacks. Doing multiple tasks at ago is reflective of reduces focus. This always leads to the
employee producing dismal work quality compared to someone who is instructed to do only one thing (Wallis, 2006).
Multitasking also leads to time wasting since one needs to switch and coordinate from task to task. This requires a periodic
reminder of what to switch to. Is this always the case? How so, why, and in what way? The switching is especially difficult for
the people working in web design and development firms. In most cases, little work is completed since the individual who
multitasks is constantly on the move towards the next item on their list, resulting in low overall daily productivity.
Transitions…connection to above ideas? This needs much more detail and development – again, be sure to address the how
so, why, and in what way. See additional tips on this in HL – big 6. Technology has significantly led to multitasking
Technology has made multitasking simpler than ever. One can simultaneously watch TV and navigate through social media
newsfeeds on laptops while reading texts on iPads (Wallis, 2006). However, all the multitasking may shrink the
structure and functioning of the brains.
