Okay, so I need help with this EMW (equivalent mud weight)
problem. I have been using the formula (P/Total Depth of Well) *19.25 but I am
getting a very low answer. I don’t know why/how you use the fracture gradient
in this problem. I feel that might be the key. Help would appreciated !
The answer is circled in blue (18.25 ppg)——————————————–28. (2) You are drilling with a mud weight to 16 ppg. The TD is 12,000 ft. The pressure due to
surge at the bottom of the hole is 1,400 psi. The fracture gradient there is 18 ppg. The
EMW is:
– 16
a) 17.35 ppg
TP-12,000
19.26
b) 18.25 ppg
c) 19.35 ppg

d) 20.25 ppg
